Convergence - Easter Eggs & Facts
Happy Easter, my fellow heathens!
I've been wanting to do this video for a while now, so this was a good excuse.
When preparing for this video, I quickly discovered that it's impossible to cover every little detail, but that's probably for the better. Albums should retain some mystery as I feel they are a creature of their own and should be treated as such. So consider this video a light-hearted grazing of the surface - the rest is up to you to discover.
The story behind “The Sea” I referred to in the video: ua-cam.com/video/laVZFeRppw4/v-deo.htmlsi=g2CaHtXHogIbBUSA
By the way, if you have any questions about certain details on this album or the other ones, please do not hesitate to ask in the comments. I'm always thrilled to see what people pick up on and I'll do my best to respond.
If you are enjoying what I'm doing, please consider supporting me by buying my music or some merch!

      Thank you! Yes you are right - JMJ was my first favorite musician when I was a kid, and that final song was a spontaneous one-take-per-instrument jam. I was surprised myself that quite a bit of that style came out, despite not having listened to that album for probably two decades. Apparently it was more deeply ingrained than I was aware of! I doubted for a moment whether I should use it, but ultimately I consider it to be an ode to one of the giants whose shoulders I'm standing on. Without people like him, I might have never discovered how much I love musical experimentation.

    I have no words, I'm just amazed! By the way, I myself noticed some Easter eggs, for example, the Morse code from "Infinion" and I was always wondering what it meant. The reference to Orion almost brought me to tears. I also think Cliff is the greatest musician and he is one of my favorites, and when I found out that he is also the favorite of my other favorite musician, I was totally shocked (yes, I'm talking about you now :)). It really says a lot about Burton as a person and a musician. He promised to become the best musician in honor of his dead brother and he actually became, and moreover, he became an idol for other musicians that are now considered as the best. I myself dream of becoming the best guitarist in honor of Cliff Burton as he became for his brother, I even practice 8 hours a day like him. And I also dedicated one of my songs to him... Thank you very much for this video, you've just confirmed that you are one of the best composers I have ever heard, and maybe even the best. I am waiting for more similar videos, maybe there will be something about "Emergence" or "Transience" too.

    I managed to spot a few of them, but most of them were a very welcome insight into the creative process :) I assume your Shylma demo database is bigger than mine, but I think the riff at minute 1.34 of Threshold is from an old Nimblkorg song I have somewhere on an old hard drive. I was immediately triggered when I heard the song for the first time. And finally... an egregore can be a very real monster, more real than anything else.

    Btw I have a theory about the title of the track "Becoming". Hegel, following his dialectic, described life as the thesis, death as the antithesis, and the becoming as the synthesis of the first two. So that's where the name comes from imo, or at least that is what it reminds me of.

    • @Shylmagoghnar
      @Shylmagoghnar Місяць тому

      Interesting! My thoughts went in a similar direction. Though I'm not certain whether I've heard of Hegel's arguments on this in great detail, I had been reading about similar concepts in several religions/isms, one of them being Saṃsāra, wherein life and death are often described as a cycle of which it is very difficult (or even impossible) to escape. While I'm not a religious person, I do find it very fascinating when there is overlap like this in cultures of all corners and ages of the world. At the same time, the joy of feeling my kid move for the first time made me realize on a profound level that someone who wasn't, now was. Or at the very least, he was in that process, ergo, he was becoming. So it's kind of a bittersweet title for me. Joy vs eternal entrapment. The kind of puzzle I don't expect to be able to solve within my life time.

      The B3 is such a classic and recognizable sound, isn't it? I really just used it because of reading about the making of Orion, but I can see myself using it in different ways on future songs. Many thanks by the way! I was very happy with how both of those things turned out, and I've learned quite a lot from this album's cycle. It will certainly come in useful in the future!

    There is something so strange and unsettling about the distortion on the vocals at 10:36. it instantly reminded me of the distortion I heard when being put under anesthesia for a surgery. I've heard it twice in my life and I've always wondered if that's the same sound you hear when dying.

      Unsettling was definitely the vibe I was going for! And you've heard them too then, that's very interesting. I base these kinds of sounds on things I've heard as well. In my case it's usually because of bad health, but in both cases I assume the brain simply starts to go off the rails and these are the results. I guess there's only one way we can truly find the answer to that question. I hope it's not this thing that talks to us when that time arrives though...
